Event Description

The season’s most elegant night! Join us for a formal celebration of Global African Diaspora achievements, leadership, and artistry. Guests will arrive in stunning cultural attire, honoring tradition while celebrating the future of the diaspora. The evening will therefore not simply be about looking back. It is about recognizing how far we have traveled, honoring those whose courage made our progress possible, celebrating the excellence that exists among us today, and asking what we will build for the generations that follow.

As America 250 draws to a close, we do not shy away from the complexities or struggles of the past. We honor them by choosing what we create next. Together, we gather across generations, cultures, industries, and communities to celebrate our heritage, recognize our collective excellence, deepen our connections, and imagine a future shaped by greater collaboration, opportunity, and shared purpose.

One Community, Many Cultures, Limitless Impact! Together, we celebrate as ONE.

On Saturday, September 19, the Penn Museum hosted the Africatown One Diaspora Gala, bringing together global diplomats, business leaders, artists, and community figures. Presented by Philadelphia Africatown, ACANA, and Atelier Africa, the event served as the grand finale to the 2026 Africatown Summer Series. The evening featured live performances, cultural showcases, and honored leaders excelling in business, healthcare, arts, and philanthropy. Attendees were encouraged to “Dress to Express and Arrive to Impress,” using fashion to celebrate a shared, interconnected heritage across the African diaspora. The gala centered on the Global African Diaspora excellence as a living global force. Beyond celebration, the event aligns with Philadelphia Africatown’s mission to establish Southwest Philadelphia as a premier destination for art & culture, business and commerce for tourists and the Global African Diaspora.
