The Africatown Signage

On June 5, 2026, Africatown Philadelphia marked a monumental step forward with the official unveiling of new signage at 60th and Woodland Avenue. This marker stands as a bold, visible symbol recognizing Southwest Philadelphia’s rich African American, African, and Caribbean immigrant corridor.

“Africatown Philadelphia was built on the foundation of the community that was already here… That story was what we were honoring.” Voffee Jabateh, ACANA CEO

Distinguished guests, including Chairman Jordan Harris, Councilwoman Jamie Gauthier, and Kathryn Ott Lovell (President & CEO of the Philadelphia Visitor Center), joined residents and business owners to celebrate. This unveiling serves as the launchpad for expanded public art, commerce, and community services along Woodland Avenue.

Unveiling & Media Launch Event marks a significant milestone in establishing Africatown as a cultural and economic hub in Southwest Philadelphia. This celebration introduces the African Diaspora Cultural Summer Experience, a dynamic series featuring soccer watch parties, an African Diaspora Ball, a Street Festival, Live Music, and a Basketball Tournament. Community leaders, businesses, city and state officials, partners, and supporters will come together to honor this achievement, share the vision for the summer series, and highlight the opportunities it creates for local entrepreneurs, artists, and residents. This event sets the stage for a vibrant season of culture, connection, and community impact.
